Perry Report: Redistricting, special announcement, & more

Thank you for taking the time to read our latest newsletter. I greatly appreciate your continued support and prayers. Despite our work in Raleigh coming to an end for the year, we will continue to spend time meeting with our constituents, community leaders, and business owners to see how we can best serve them in the 2024 Legislative Short Session.

The most recent edition of my newsletter includes highlights and information on all that we’re doing to serve you, both in Raleigh and at home in Beaufort, Craven, and Lenoir counties. As a reminder, my office is open to take your feedback, answer your questions, and assist you in navigating state government. Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can be of service to you.

At your service,
Jim

Senator Jim Perry
North Carolina General Assembly

Special Announcement

Serving the people of Eastern North Carolina in the state Senate has been among the highest honors in my life. We’ve accomplished many great things – the creation of a statewide flood mitigation blueprint, infrastructure enhancements for rural communities, economic development for our region, and more – and we have more work to get done. I’m humbled to announce our campaign for re-election to continue serving the people and making our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

Senator Perry Awarded 'Jobs Champion'
Designation from NC Chamber

In the pursuit of maintaining our position as the top state for business, North Carolina's prosperity depends on our commitment to competitiveness. I’m honored to be recognized as a 'Jobs Champion' by the North Carolina Chamber and I remain dedicated to fostering an environment where businesses thrive, invest, and contribute to the growth of our great state.

Congratulations to Our Local Officials!

It takes a great deal of time, effort and courage to put your name on a ballot. Running for office can be tough on a candidate, but it also impacts their entire family. These local elections were a long journey for all of the candidates.

Now that results have been tallied, some have felt the thrill of winning and some are dealing with the sting of a loss. If you won, I encourage you to do so with class. If you lost, I encourage the same.

I look forward to working with all of our newly elected & re-elected local officials.

Legislative Redistricting

Last month, the General Assembly passed new district maps for Congress, NC House, and NC Senate. Not subject to the Governor’s approval, these maps are now law and will take effect for the 2024 Election.

Using decennial U.S. Census data, the General Assembly is required by the constitution to redraw districts every 10 years. The new Senate District 2 remains exactly as it did for the 2022 Election – encompassing all of Lenoir, Craven, and Beaufort County.

We've created an interactive map on the General Assembly's website where you can enter your address to see what districts you live in now, and what districts you will vote in for the 2024 Election. Check it out:

The Informed Citizen Series

Here is some good information for the informed citizen series. While in some states, candidates can accept unlimited corporate donations, North Carolina distinguishes itself by not allowing corporate contributions at all.
