This past month at the General Assembly has been both busy and productive, and we have some important updates to share with you.
Thank you for taking the time to read our latest newsletter. I greatly appreciate your continued support and prayers. Despite our work in Raleigh coming to an end for the year, we will continue to spend time meeting with our constituents, community leaders, and business owners to see how we can best serve them in the 2024 Legislative Short Session.
We hope you all had a relaxing Labor Day weekend! As August ends and September begins, we look forward to cooler weather and the changing color of leaves. There’s something special about experiencing the seasons in Eastern North Carolina.
As summer winds down, students are going back to school and legislators are getting back to business by overriding more of the Governor's vetoes and finishing up with the State Budget process. Over the last few weeks, we've been working behind-the-scenes to negotiate and build consensus with our colleagues in the NC House — and we are very close to a final product (more information follows below).
It has been a very productive month for the North Carolina Senate. We have been working tirelessly on our version of the State Budget, which passed the chamber by a vote of 37-12. We also took the time to remember and honor our fallen heroes on Memorial Day – paying tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom.
