The Perry Report: Back to School, Veto Overrides, & More
We hope you all had a relaxing Labor Day weekend! As August ends and September begins, we look forward to cooler weather and the changing color of leaves. There’s something special about experiencing the seasons in Eastern North Carolina.
My colleagues and I have had the opportunity to spend more time in our districts and with our families. This has provided me with the ability to visit with constituents and community leaders across Beaufort, Craven, and Lenoir counties – while continuing to conduct business in Raleigh through phone calls, virtual meetings, and occasionally in person for votes and veto overrides.
Below, you'll find our latest newsletter to keep you informed and connected. As always, please feel free to reach out to my office if you need any assistance navigating state government. Your ongoing support and prayers are greatly appreciated.
At your service,
Jim
Senator Jim Perry
North Carolina General Assembly
Happy Labor Day!
Carolina Strong
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the faculty member who tragically lost their life on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last week. We are keeping this community in our prayers as they navigate this terrible loss of life.
Back to School
As we start a new school year, I want to express my gratitude to our hardworking teachers, dedicated administrators, and supportive parents. To our students – you are our future doctors, lawyers, educators, and leaders – and we are proud of your commitment to education. Let’s make it a year of growth, learning, and success!
6 More VETO Overrides
My Senate colleagues and I cast our votes to OVERRIDE six additional Vetoes by the Governor, resulting in several Bills becoming Law:
Increasing access to charter schools
Establishing rules against men participating in women's sports
Banning transgender surgeries for minors
Reaffirming parental rights in education
Ensuring affordable home ownership
These overrides represent a significant victory for countless North Carolina families, businesses, parents, students, and athletes – ensuring that common-sense continues to govern our great state.
Legislative Update
We're continuing our work in the General Assembly, meeting with constituents and addressing the issues that impact our region. We've achieved significant milestones during this session and are continuing our work to ensure that North Carolina retains our status as the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Since our last newsletter update, the Senate has passed and turned the following bills into laws:
PASSED THE SENATE
BECAME LAW
