Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Pediatric and Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Public Health discipline is a dynamic unit that offers educational programs including community rotations, a dental public health residency program, and an Oral Epidemiology PhD program.
Position Summary:
This position will serve as driver/vehicle operator for the waterBEST (Water from Bottles to Establish Strong Teeth) research study based in Kinston, NC. The study is a randomized controlled trial of fluoride in bottled water for the prevention of tooth decay in young children. The appointee will be responsible for collecting 600-gallon batches of water from public water systems in New Bern and North Lenoir County. Other duties are: a) assistance with bottling water and storing the 5-gallon bottles at the study’s warehouse; b) cleaning and maintenance of the tank and trailer used to transport batches of water; c) completing study records and other study-related paperwork.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: NC Class C driving license; Clean driving record; Competent in driving and maneuvering Ford F150 pickup truck towing 26-foot trailer with 3-ton load.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Experience with pumping and storing water.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to lift 5-gallon bottle of water.
Work Schedule: Incumbent will drive every other week, will expand to every week.
