After a few weeks of internal debate, House Republicans selected Mike Johnson to serve as the 56th Speaker of the House and Washington is back in business. Upon electing our new Speaker, we immediately took to the floor with an aggressive plan of action to responsibly fund our federal government and stand up for Israel and Jews around the world
We have now passed seven of twelve appropriations bills and are moving quickly to finish the job by November 17th, the government funding deadline. House Republicans have put forth common-sense proposals, moving far quicker than the Democratic-led Senate. By the deadline, we will be in a strong negotiating position to ensure the wins we fought for will remain in these bills when they hit President Biden's desk.
It has now been nearly a month since Hamas launched its heinous and devasting attack on Israel. Over 1400 Israelis are dead, 242 hostages remain in Gaza, and 332 Israeli Defense Forces soldiers have been killed. Hamas continues to rain missiles on Israel and has zealously pledged to continue until Israel and its people are destroyed. My heart breaks for the innocent individuals facing a humanitarian crisis in both Israel and Palestine, however, I am strongly opposed to calls for a ceasefire. We had one, it was the day before Hamas launched its attack on October 7th.

Moment of Silence Beirut Barracks Bombing
On October 23rd, 1983, two suicide bombers took the lives of 220 Marines, 18 Sailors, and 3 Soldiers at the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon and wounded another 128 Americans. A few minutes later in a coordinated attack, another suicide bomber blew up the French barracks about 4 miles away killing 58 French paratroopers.
Their mission was a peacekeeping one. And today, etched in the stone of the Beirut Memorial in Jacksonville is a line that reads, “They came in peace.” Eastern North Carolina continues to grieve today for the loss of life and loved ones in the devastating attack 40 years ago.
In honor of our fallen heroes, I asked the House to observe a moment of silence.
Medical Imaging Technology Alliance's Innovation Award
I'm grateful to have received the Innovation Award from the Medical Imaging Technology Alliance (MITA) for my work in Congress this year! MITA is a leading advocate for advanced imaging technologies and strives to promote innovation, patient safety protection, and established industry standards.
As a physician for over 30 years, improving health care access, affordability, and quality is a top priority of mine. Medical imaging, especially with the implementation of artificial intelligence, is making immense strides in the field of diagnostics.
I’m committed to ensuring patients are protected every step of the way.
Meeting with the American Legion
Everyone knows Eastern North Carolina is very military-friendly, especially our district. One-in-ten individuals in NC-03 is a veteran and I'm proud to fight for them here in Washington.
It was a pleasure hosting the American Legion's new Legislative Commission Chairwoman, Patricia Harris, and her staff. I'm extremely proud to work closely with this organization in pursuit of fulfilling our promises to our veterans.
The American Legion understands just how difficult it can be for veterans to receive the benefits they are entitled to. The organization provides great aid to Congress in its advocacy for veterans, highlighting ways in which we can address new challenges as they arise.
