Help wanted: Lenoir Community College - Bus Driver – Career and College Promise Programs

Salary: $15.00 Hourly
The Bus Driver – Career and College Promise Programs has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of LCC students. It is the role of the bus driver to guarantee the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times; determine and follow safe and efficient bus routes; maintain all transportation records required by the College; and evacuate passengers in case of emergency. This position reports to the Vice President of Instruction & Institutional Effectiveness.

This position will remain open until filled.

The duties of the Bus Driver include, but are not limited to:

Transport Lenoir, Jones, and Greene County high school students between local high schools and the Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center/main campus; Mondays-Fridays; during school operating hours; and when LCC and local high schools are in session (approximately 4-5 hours/day)

Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers being transported on the bus

Arrange for the annual state inspection of the bus

Complete a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily, report any conditions of concern to the Director of Student Activities

Arrange for and ensure completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change); transport the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities

Ensure the bus always has sufficient fuel

Operate bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; report any traffic violations to the Director of Student Activities immediately

Follow safe bus loading and unloading procedures

Guarantee that no passenger is left at an event

Keep the bus clean and free of debris; follow other bus cleaning procedures

Routinely inventory bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment

Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Must possess a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Successful experience as a bus driver preferred

Effective oral and written communication skills are required

Regular access to a reliable transportation; have a valid North Carolina driver's license and vehicle insurance

Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus

Candidate must have effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills

Ability to lift 55 pounds is required

Candidate must have the ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies

Working Conditions

Risks are involved with travel on main highways, side streets, and rural roads

Although travel for this position is not intended to include evenings and weekends, the LCC Foundation may have requests for work during evenings or weekends, to be approved at the discretion of the Vice President of Instruction and based on availability of the bus driver

Candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule M-F, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm

Candidate must be able to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions consistent with driving a bus in the southeastern United States

The position involves sitting for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing
