LCSO release: SCARR arrests

Two men, both out of jail on pre-trial charges, were arrested Thursday by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office SCARR (Street Crimes and Rapid Response) unit.

A traffic stop was conducted on Sherman Potter, 49, of Lenoir County, Thursday by the SCARR unit in the area of U.S. 258 South while the unit was conducting proactive enforcement. During the stop, a probable cause search was conducted, which resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine packaged for street-level narcotics sales. Additionally, drug paraphernalia was discovered in the investigation.

Potter was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Later in the evening, the SCARR unit — with assistance of LCSO Patrol D shift personnel — responded to a suspicious person call on Hartfield Drive involving a firearm. At the scene, Kevin Lee, 37, of Lenoir County, was located outside the residence. Detectives located marijuana and a firearm that had been in the possession of Lee; the firearm had been previously reported as stolen out of Lenoir County.

Lee is a prior convicted felon and had an outstanding child support warrant. He was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm and simple possession of marijuana.

Potter and Lee were booked into the Lenoir County Detention Center and weren’t given bonds for their new charges due to both being out of jail on pre-trial release for previous charges.
