“Mayor Hardy, Representative Humphrey, and I have been working on the Adkin Branch flooding issue since August of 2020. We are glad to continue to make progress. The NC Land and Water Fund is a great resource and partner for our efforts.” - Senator Perry
Kinston Mayor, Don Hardy said, “This grant will be extremely helpful for our community. I appreciate the work of our team members during the grant process. I also can’t say enough about the support we receive from Senator Perry and Representative Humphrey. We work well together, and I appreciate their support for the citizens of Kinston.”
As directed and funded by the North Carolina General Assembly, grants awarded will protect and restore floodplains and wetlands for the purposes of reducing flooding, improving water quality, restoring wildlife habitat, and providing recreational opportunities throughout the state. Funds were awarded by the NCLWF Board of Trustees for projects designed to store floodwaters during major rain events, remove infrastructure from flood-prone areas, and restore wetlands, floodplains, and other natural areas to better retain stormwater
