Greene County Friends of the Library hosts Annual Meeting

Rose Hernandez, Greene County Public Library’s Branch Manager gives her annual report at the Greene County Friends of the Library Annual Meeting on April 20, 2023 at the City Club.

Snow HIll - On Thursday, April 20 the Greene County Friends of the Library (GC FOL) held its Annual Meeting. At the Meeting, current Friends of the Library members are invited to a dinner with entertainment in recognition of their membership in this non-profit organization that supports the Greene County Public Library (GCPL).

According to Greene County Public Library Branch Manager Rose Hernandez, Greene County Friends of the Library members provide vital monetary contributions and volunteer in numerous ways. Members serve on the Board of Directors, organize the annual meeting, judge the Bookmark Contest, provide input and feedback on the library’s yearly programming schedule and lend a hand at the Friends booth at various community events.

Before the meal, GC FOL President Robert Glossip thanked the current members for their continued support of the Friends group and the GCPL.  Board member Emily Baker introduced and thanked local elected officials that were in attendance. Branch Manager Rose Hernandez gave an enthusiastic plug of all the recent and upcoming library events including the recent Spring Fling, which she shared was “a huge success”. Treasurer LouAnn Shackelford gave a thoughtful prayer and food blessing. Gloria Artis and Annie Hicks served desserts.

Greene County Friends of the Library is a private, non-profit organization that supports the Greene County Public Library, a branch of the Neuse Regional Library System.  Its mission is to promote and support its community library for the education and recreation of Greene County citizens.

As expressed in their membership literature, the GC FOL has  four primary goals:

1. Promote the use of the GCPL throughout the community by publicizing its programs and services in community venues and to a variety of community audiences.

2. Provide monetary support through on-going Book Sale and fundraising efforts.

3. Sponsor speakers, storytellers, musicians, dramatic performances, and cultural events for all ages and interest in the community.

4. Encourage the donation of books in honor or memory of individuals by members and library patrons.

Donations of any size, large or small, help the GC FOL further the community initiatives that benefit all Greene County citizens.
