The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Piggly Wiggly #78 Meat Market 

2407 D N Heritage Street, Kinston 

Date: 3/10

Score: 90

Observations: 

No employee food policy in place. 

Employee drinking cups stored on soiled drainboard of 3-comp sink. 

Employee did not wash hands after gathering paper towels outside of prep room. 

No paper towels present at hand wash sink. 

Country ham on top of display unit moldy. 

Metal trays visibly soiled in prep area and walk ins. 

Turkey necks thawing in pooled water. 

Establishment lacks food thermometer. 

White disposable trays visibly soiled in storage area above prep. 

Broken vacuum sealer out in prep area. 

Shelving, racks, new vacuum sealer, display units, and equipment components are visibly soiled. 

Hand wash sink has no hot water. 

3-comp sink plumbing is disconnected from left wash basin. 

Ceilings observed with microbial growth present. 

South Lenoir High School Cafeteria 

3355 Old Hwy 11S, Deep Run

Observations: 

Gasket on 1st milk case is loose. 

Dumpster missing plug. 

Paint is chipping and peeling throughout kitchen. 

Hardees

Observations: 

Several pans on clean storage rack are visibly soiled. 

Several hot hold units are not working properly. 

Sides of fryers, hoods, shelving, walk-in fridge floor and walk-in freezer floor, wheels of equipment, floors, walls, and ceilings need cleaning.

Floor drain at 1-comp sink is not draining properly.

Observations: 

Person in charge lacks certification. 

Some foods held past date mark on package. 

Establishment lacks thermometer. 

Trays for packaging visibly soiled in storage area. 

Plastic ready racks, wrapper equipment, ceilings in prep area, vents, and speed racks visibly soiled. 

Bojangles

400 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

Establishment lacks vomit and diarrheal plan. 

Employee observed plucking pin feathers from fried chicken. 

Employee personal jackets/items kept close to salad/tea prep area. 

Lemons uncovered with constant exposure to coffee area. 

Ice storage area has rust visibly in well. 

Metal plating outside of walk-in #2 in poor repair. 

Racks for storage, grill racks, pots, pans, lids, and equipment in open storage observed dusty/compacted grease observed. 

Toilets in mens and women's restrooms soiled. 

Garbage receptacle open and drain plug is missing. 

Mop sink drain grate not in place. 

In dining area, wallpaper is lifting, appears moldy underneath. 

Hampton Inn Kitchen 

1382 Hwy 258 S, Kinston

Score: 93.5

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager present. 

Kitchen staff bathrooms and customer restrooms were all observed to have 70-75F water. 

The ice machine storage bin was observed to have substance mold buildup. 

Effective hair restraints need to be worn. 

Can opener shall have readily removable cutting parts. 

Dumpster door was left open. 

Several garbage cans were observed to be visibly soiled. 

A light fixture is leaking water onto the floor in kitchen. 

Better cleaning needed in kitchen around oven, under equipment, and prep tables. 

Burger King

2402 N Herritage Street, Kinston 

Date: 3/28

Score: 92.5

Observations: 

Some foods were not properly marked. 

Syrups not identified in squeeze bottles. 

Shelving, floors, walls, ceilings, inside and exterior of refrigeration/freezers, outside of equipment, oven, HVAC return vent, under shake machine and other counter top surfaces need cleaning. 

5 faucets at can wash leaking. 

Drain/hub under 3 comp sink needs cleaning.

Waste receptacles in ladies room have broken lids. 

Massive amount of grease continues to be running down grease bin and covering dumpster pad.
