Position: Accounting Specialist I
Hiring Range: $38,045-$49,918
Description:
Performs fiscal control and governmental accounting work in the county Finance Department.
Job Duties and functions:
An employee in this class assists the County Finance Officer in managing all accounting and related records concerning the receipt, investment, expenditure, and balancing of federal, state, and county funds. Duties involve administering and performing all aspects of an accounting cycle including billing, receipts, deposits, balancing and internal controls. Work also includes preparation of related financial reports which require the application of accounting principles as well as applicable fiscal regulations. Employee will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The employee may occasionally perform duties within the Tax Department under the direction of the County Tax Administrator. Requires strong communication skills, and a detail-oriented individual with initiative and ability to complete complex assignments. Work is performed under the supervision of the County Finance Officer and is subject to review for conformance to regulation and policy by official periodic audits.
Education and experience requirements:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or other curriculum that would provide a core curriculum in financial management coursework from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of accounting or auditing experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience as an accounting technician, three of which must be at an advanced technical level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
