Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Olympian 

601 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 6/26

Score: 95.5

Observations: 

Soap empty at hand washing sink. 

Foods in flip top fridge temping above 41F. 

Some foods lack date mark. 

Ineffective beard restraints observed. 

Plastic jars reused for sauce prep, not approved. 

Walk-in fridge observed with water leaking from ceiling. 

Microwaves, Supera freezer, and shelving throughout is visibly soiled. 

Floor tiles in mens bathroom are cracked. 

Ceiling tiles in both bathrooms have visible stains. 

Walls and ceiling tiles throughout back of house visibly soiled. 

Pizza Villa 

1400 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 6/30

Score: 91

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager present. 

Establishment lacking vomit and diarrhea plan. 

Several employees observed cleaning their hands, turning off faucet with clean hands, and then drying with paper towels. 

Deli meats and chicken salad lacking date mark. 

Wet cloths observed under eggplant pasta in pizza prep cooler. 

Ice in server ice station observed with dust and debris in ice. 

Watch, wrist jewelry, and ineffective hair/beard restraints observed. 

Handle of sandwich knife observed in mushrooms. 

Ice bin at drink station has door that needs repair still. 

Refrigeration, shelving, and ice machine area are visibly soiled. 

Receptacle side door left open. 

Several vents missing/filters exposed. 

Tiles soiled and shifted/cracked. 

Ruby Tuesday

3725 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 7/05

Score: 93

Observations: 

Employee observed cleaning their hands, turning off faucet with clean hands, and then drying with paper towels. 

Plates under prep area-left side visibly soiled. 

Some foods in prep line flip top an Delfield cool Fridge were above 41F.

Open salsa lacking date mark and visible mold present within the container the bad was stored in. 

Side panels still not present on salad bar. 

Wet wiping cloth stored in walk-in on container of watermelon. 

Pans stacked wet in prep area. 

Flip top on right side prep line is off the hinges. 

Right door of Delfield cool XL gasket seal is loose.

Refrigeration throughout, ovens, shelving, outside of equipment, floors, and ceilings visibly soiled. 

Men's urinal visibly soiled and rusty. 


Midway Mart & Grill

8176 Hwy 258 S, Pink Hill 

Date: 7/06

Score: 95.5

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager present.

Employee observed cleaning their hands, turning off faucet with clean hands, and then drying with paper towels. 

Some hot foods temped below 135F.

Deli meats lacked date mark. 

Several flies around food service area and seating. 

Receptacle sliding door open.

Observations: 

Raw food flour buckets, green flour bucket, and large flour container lacking label. 

Employees observed wearing digital watches. 

Ice scoop in ice. 

Disposable cup in green flour bucket for dispensing. 

Tea area and internal bases of refrigeration still soiled. 

Receptacle top door open on cardboard receptacle. 

Byrd's Restaurant 

196 Hwy 58 S, Kinston

Observations: 

Several employees observed cleaning their hands, turning off faucet with clean hands, and then drying with paper towels.

Chili lacked date mark. 

Some plastic containers are not smooth to the touch. 

Some floor tiles are still broken. 


Nana's Catering

Observations: 

Establishment lacking certified food manager. 

Hand washing sink used by food employee to fill lemonade jug. 

Chlorine sanitizer solution is weak. 

6-door fridge still not in use.
