Unsung Hero: Lara Lang Tribula - Champion of Downtown Revitalization

In a world where recognition often eludes those who truly deserve it, this week's Unsung Hero stands out for her dedicated contributions to the community. Lara Lang Tribula, a long-time resident of Lenoir County and an employee of the State Employees' Credit Union, embodies the spirit of service and commitment.

Lang Tribula’s journey is deeply rooted in the heart of Kinston. She was born and raised here, and for 24 years, she has worked at the State Employees' Credit Union. Her dedication to her job and her commitment to the community are evident in her many roles, both at work and beyond.

“As my kids have gotten older, I've just tried to put myself in positions where I could help my community,” she said. “I want to give back in whatever way I can to help us grow and revitalize recover.”

One of her most notable contributions is her involvement with the Downtown Kinston Revitalization (DKR) Board. She's been a member of this board for several years, witnessing the ups and downs that often come with such endeavors. Despite the challenges, she remains steadfast in her commitment to revitalizing downtown Kinston.

“We're excited about this current fiscal year moving forward with hopefully some facade grant improvements along Queen Street,” said Lang Tribula.

She wants to see more historic buildings come back to life. She believes that these neglected treasures can be revitalized, breathing new life into the heart of the city. She understands that this transformation will require not just local investment but also attracting outside investors to believe in Kinston's potential.

Her passion for her community doesn't stop with the DKR Board. She also serves on the board of the Chamber of Commerce, contributing her time and energy to various community projects, including job fairs. Her commitment to helping the community grow and recover from challenges, such as flooding, is unwavering.

She is anything but boring. Her work in the community, from her role at the credit union to her involvement in revitalizing downtown, showcases her dedication and love for Kinston. She is a true unsung hero, quietly working behind the scenes to make her hometown a better place for all.

As she continues her journey to uplift Kinston, her dedication reminds us that it takes a community to create lasting change. Her story serves as an inspiration to others who may follow in her footsteps, working diligently to build a brighter future for their own communities.

“Never take for granted what you have and keep trying to improve it,” said Lang Tribula.

In Kinston, her name may not always make headlines, but her contributions certainly deserve recognition. She is proof that heroes can be found everywhere, quietly making a difference in the lives of those around them.
