Obituary: Margaret B. Whitehurst

Mrs. Margaret B. Whitehurst passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at UNC Health Lenoir after a brief illness. Margaret was born in Bertie County, NC on March 9, 1936. She was adopted at an early age and lovingly raised by Willie and Margaret King Gregory in Windsor, NC.

Margaret graduated from Windsor High School in 1954 and attended what was then East Carolina Teachers College where she met and later married Warren Whitehurst in 1958. They lived in Greenville, NC until August 1978, and made their home in Kinston until Warren’s passing in 2013. Margaret had been a resident of The Herritage Elite Senior Estate since June 2019, where she had many friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Reverend Dennis Levin officiating.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Warren Whitehurst, her mother and father, Margaret King and Willie Gregory, her sister, Charlotte Atkins.

Survivors include a son, Jay Whitehurst and wife, Celia of Snow Hill; daughters, Kathryn Padgett and husband, Bobby of Winterville, Elizabeth Booher and husband, Jim of Chesapeake, VA.; granddaughter, Lindsey Bennett and husband, Andrew of New Bern; great granddaughter, Natalie Bennett; step-grandchildren, Amber Crandall, Brandy Boone, Kristan Booher and Zac Booher.
