Golden China Buffet

4147 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 9/16

Score: 90

Observations: 

Employee entered kitchen and began working without washing hands.

Employee dumped egg rolls onto sheet and used bare hands to spread egg rolls out to cool. These egg rolls will be reheated to serve.

Some dishes were visibly dirty. 

Cooked chicken in prep unit was above 41 degrees. Do not over-stack in prep unit to maintain proper temperature.

Prep unit is not designed to properly cool food. Use alternate method to rapid cool food and utilize walk in units.

Spices at stove are not labeled and removed from original container.

Cooling egg rolls stored next to screen door. During time of inspection, the weather was rainy and windy. Due to this, water was entering through the screen door near the egg rolls. Large open bags of corn starch and MSG in back storage room. 

Sheet pans were stacked wet on wire shelves. Let dishes air dry before stacking.

Walk in freezer door in poor repair, the door is separating and cracked. Equipment shall be repaired. Shelving in walk-in and in food prep area is rusty. Needs to be repaired/replaced to keep them smooth and easily cleanable.

Non food contact surfaces such as shelving, wire racks, inside and outside of equipment, dry food bins, ceiling vents etc need additional cleaning. 

One lid broken and missing from dumpster. Dumpsters missing drain plugs. 

Floor, walls and ceilings need additional cleaning. Floor tiles are damaged. Observed acoustic ceiling tiles throughout the kitchen.


H.O.W. II

710 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager on staff. 

No ServSafe certified member on staff. 

A few cups and dishes were visibly soiled. 

Cooked shrimp, cooked chicken, baby corn were reading above 41 degrees. They ranged from 39-50 degrees.

Crab dip made and held for more than 24 hours without a date mark. 

Items at cook line were not labeled such as almond slivers, dry peppers and white wine vinegar. These items shall be labeled.

Walk in cooler unit has drip inside, walk in freezer is leaking water out on the floor outside the door, salad prep unit has leak due to excessive amounts of condensation forming on the door. Lift top cooler for chopped vegetables and cooked shrimp is leaking water, water is pooling in the bottom of the unit and onto the floor. 

Build up observed on shelving units, racks and bottoms of equipment, as well at tops of chemicals under dish machine area. Further cleaning is needed. Miscellaneous items stored and pushed back under stainless stain cabinet across from cook line.

Provide a covered waste bin in female restrooms. No covered trash can in employee restroom.

Observed splatters and residue on walls, and build up on vents. 

Designate and use an area for the orderly storage of employees' clothing and possessions. Employee possessions stored on prep unit table beside food and equipment.


Kings Restaurant

405 E New Bern Road, Kinston

Observations: 

Sanitizer at hot hold line was too weak. 

Two ice scoops stored on grates of soda machines, both were visibly dirty. 

Fryer missing door on cook line. Establishment shall repair/replace.

Establishment needs to clean shelving units, outside/inside refrigerators, wire racks, dish racks, plate carts, etc. 

Leak still present at 2 compartment sink in dish room and at employee hand washing sink in oyster bar area.

Ceiling tiles have damage, and holes present on ceiling in storage room.

Floors, walls and ceilings need additional cleaning due to build up of dust, grease, flour, etc. Bacterial growth still present on ceiling in storage room.

Areas designated for employees to eat and drink, shall be located so that food, equipment, linens, single service/use items are protected from contamination. Two employee drinks found: one on top of dish washer and the other in dry storage.


Mi Ranchito Mexican Bar and Grill

107 N Central Avenue, Pink Hill

Observations: 

No ServSafe manager on staff. 

Hand wash sink at waitress station missing soap.

Handles found inside food items, such as mayonnaise and rice. Scoops observed setting on top of counters for ice and for chips. 

Air dry equipment and utensils after cleaning and sanitizing. Dishes observed stacked wet throughout restaurant.

Single-use and single-service articles cannot be reused. Single service cups being used for salsa scooping.

Build up observed on shelving units and under equipment on tables in kitchen.

Floor still had dirty water in areas from clean up prior to establishment opening. Establishment shall properly clean and maintain.


Taco Bell 

700 E New Bern Road, Kinston

Observations: 

Label all containers of foods or chemicals when they have been removed from original packaging.

Non food contact surfaces of equipment shall be cleaned frequently to preclude accumulation of soil residues. The vents on the front of prep refrigerators observed to have grease/dust buildup.

Bathroom fixtures need additional cleaning.


Taco Bell

1806 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

The condiments in squeeze bottles at prep line shall be labeled with the common working name of the item. 

Most all of the plastic and stainless steel pans in storage were observed to be wet. Make sure items have time to air dry before stacking.

Non food contact surfaces of equipment shall be cleaned frequently to preclude accumulation of soil residues. A little better cleaning needed inside some of the warming cabinets.

The dumpster door open. The area around the dumpster and grease containers observed to have grease spill and wet leaves built up. Maintain area clean.

Clean floors better under and around equipment. There are some holes on the wall behind 3 comp sink and the corner joint is somewhat caved in. Watch the metal walls in the walk in cooler as they appear to be beginning to deteriorate and get rust holes.


UNC Lenoir Healthcare

100 Airport Road, Kinston

Observations: 

Observed 1 ice bucket and scoop visibly dirty, hanging utensils, side bowls, one pan.

Remove jewelry on hands and arms while preparing food. A plain ring, such as a wedding band, is allowed. Observed food employee wearing watch.

2 lights observed out under the hood in the frying area. Back wall of reach in 2 door coolers are not functioning. True unit has condensation forming at the top, which is creating a pool of water at the bottom of the unit from it dripping.

Several cutting boards have deep groves and the coating is coming off.

Metal plating missing from wall at front entrance to kitchen. Establishment shall fix so that they are easily cleanable and maintain. 

Water was pooling over filled in drain under dishwashing area.
