Jones County Deputies to Assist Hurricane Helene Relief in Western N.C.

JONES COUNTY — Sheriff Matthew Wineman and three other members of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office are heading to Old Fort in McDowell County to aid in Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

“We’re taking UTVs and ATVs as part of the Sheriff’s Association Disaster Assistance Network,” Wineman said. “McDowell County needed help patrolling their town and specifically requested deputies with ATV capabilities.”

Sheriff Wineman emphasized the importance of giving back. “They came to help us during Florence, and seeing them show up was a godsend. We feel honored to return the favor, though we wish it were under better circumstances.”

The team will assist with patrols and recovery efforts in the area, which was heavily impacted by the storm.
