LCSO: Kinston man arrested on felony counts for vehicle break-ins

A man accused of breaking into vehicles and outbuildings on Bonnie Walters Road and then taking the change to an area Coinstar exchange machine was arrested Thursday morning.

Austin Ray Newcome, 27, of Kinston was arrested on eight felony counts following break-ins into vehicles and an outbuilding in the 3500 block of Bonnie Walters Road. The day before, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office A-Shift deputies responded to the area to investigate breaking-and-entering complaints. The victims reported multiple items were stolen, including U.S. currency, mostly coins.

One of the homeowners had video surveillance of the incident, which deputies used to identify Newcome.

Deputies gathered video evidence of Newcome using a local Coinstar exchange machine, which converts coins into cash. In the surveillance video, Newcome is seen wearing some of the same clothing he wore during the crimes. Deputies were able to secure a warrant for arrest for the felonies he committed during this incident.

When Newcome was arrested Thursday morning, further evidence was seized that tied him to the scene of the crime.

Newcome was charged with the following crimes, all felonies:

·      Two counts of breaking and/or entering

·      Two counts of larceny after breaking/entering

·      Four counts of breaking/entering a motor vehicle

Newcome received no bond due to being out on pretrial release.
