Suspect flees on bicycle after shoplifting wine, faces multiple charges
KPD’S A-Squad responded to Food Lion in reference to a shoplifting/larceny. While responding to the call, officers observed a suspect on W Washington Ave matching the description that was given by a witness. Officers recognized the subject to be Michael Jenkins (35 of Kinston) from previous encounters.
Officers attempted to make contact with Jenkins and he responded saying “challenge” and took off on his bicycle traveling west on W Washington Ave. After a short pursuit, Jenkins was taken into custody and charged with DWI.
During a search incident to arrest, officers located an opened bottle of wine that was stolen from Food Lion. While being processed, Jenkins threatened to bite the arresting officers.
Jenkins was charged with Driving While Impaired, Resisting a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Larceny, and Communicating Threats before being placed in the Lenoir County Jail under secured bond.
