Obituary: Larry Alton Smith
Larry Alton Smith, 91, of Kinston passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024, at his home.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2pm in the John Green Smith Family Cemetery.
Larry was born in Kinston to Durwood and Lera Bella Rouse Smith. In the beginning of his career, he worked for Dupont before starting his own business. Larry opened a shop on Queen Street where he sold wigs. Larry then transitioned over into his job with the Postal Service and was a rural carrier for 25 years.
Larry was an avid sports fan and had a love of watching baseball and football, as well as going gambling with his buddy, Lynwood Small.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mavis Sutton Smith; son, Kenneth Larry Smith; daughter, Katherine Smith Beamon and husband T.C.; grandchildren, Andrew Edward Beamon and wife Marla Dale, Alexandra Beamon Hawkins and husband Thomas; sister-in-law, Mary Davenport Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the 3HC Home Hospice Nurses, Gwen and Miss Lois, and to his special caregivers, Missie, Kim, and Judy. We thank you for the love that you have shown to our parents.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his brothers, Durwood Lynn "Jimboy" Smith, Elmer Bryan Smith Sr., Robert Dean Smith Sr.; and his sister, Helen Smith Alphin.
