Lenoir County restaurant inspections
The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:
Bojangles
7858 Hwy 70 W, La Grange

Observations:
Flies observed in kitchen.
Cutting boards observed with deep groves.
Ice scoop holder is broken and is hanging on to ice scoop by one screw.
Lifttop cooler unit lid is broken, the inside of the lid is falling out on the right side.
Equipment needs additional cleaning such as bottom of drawers, racks, shelving units, black grate at the 3 compartment sink, etc.
There is a clogged drain observed in between the dumpster and the cardboard bin.
There is a lot of build up observed in areas around the kitchen. There is a corner of black build up in the chicken breading station, build up was observed under 3 compartment sink and under equipment as well as on the walls.
Herritage Elite

Shredded lettuce and deli ham slices were not date marked.
Both stem thermometers continue to be out of calibration.
The dish machine is not reaching sanitizing levels.
Sticky buildup on handles of cabinets over 3 compartment sink.
Floor of freezer and refrigerator needs to be cleaned.
Area behind dumpster needs to be cleaned and maintained.

Employee washes and rinses hands then cuts water off with bare hands.
Food employee wearing bracelet, not approved.
No hot water in men's restroom due to faulty sensor.
Jo's Cafe

Observations:
One refrigerator had raw meat stored on the top shelf above cooked/cooling foods on second shelf.
The white cutting boards are heavily grooved and have black buildup.
The roaster pan is flaking off.
Many surfaces have buildup of grease. Shelving, legs of equipment, inside of refrigeration/freezers, table tops, grill area and sinks all need extra cleaning.
The lighting is not working in the dry storage room and around the food prep sinks.
Olivia's Catering

Owner touched trashcan then began touching other surfaces instead of washing hands prior.
Raw liquid egg stored above raw fruits and vegetables in domestic refrigerator.
A few live roached present, and some tiny flying insects.
Umbrella stored in contact with clean dispensing utensils.
A few single service items stored on shelving immediately outside of private restroom.
Refrigerator/freezer is not approved.
Hot water faucet for can wash is stripped.
No hot water for cook kitchen and ladies restroom on same side of building.
One of three urinals in men's restroom needs repair.
Two toilets have buildup. Shall be cleaned frequently.
Tiles missing from wall in cook kitchen, chest freezer has build-up of ice, rusty shelving for clean utensils in utensil wash room, paint peeling on ceiling in restroom, paint absent on wall behind dish machine.
Piggly Wiggly Deli
2202 Hwy 258 N, Kinston

Observations:
One employee cup with lid and straw was on the work surface where cheese boards were being made.
Staff was observed just rinsing hands off in utensil sink instead of washing them.
A few pans need better cleaning as they have greasy residue.
Jewelry other than a plain band need to be removed.
Several wet wiping cloths were laying on work tables.
A number of pans are stacked wet.
The door of meat deli case still has duct tape on it. This is not approved material.
Surfaces, walls, and floors need additional cleaning.
The bases of all toilets and drain at a 3-comp sink are heavily soiled.
All of the garbage cans and lids have a heavy buildup of food debris.
Pizza Hut
1802 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations:
There is a problem with grease accumulation on many surfaces.
Most of the pizza pans show a heavy buildup of grease and crust.
The dish machine has a heavy greasy film inside it and the well.
All lavatories for hand washing shall be cleaned at least on a daily basis.
Heavy buildup of grease and food debris under equipment and shelving and on the walls behind shelving, sinks, and equipment.
Ceiling tiles by the drive through are dusty and the vent cover is rusted.
