EMS responds to fatal tree injury near Kinston church

A Lenoir County man died Thursday from apparent injuries sustained while cutting a tree.

A little after 3 p.m. today, Lenoir County EMS and the Sandy Bottom Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the Pamlico Road area in Kinston on a report of a person with traumatic injuries from a possible fallen tree. Lenoir County Emergency Services personnel arrived to find a deceased male at a church at 2996 Hwy 55 West.

According to Murry Stroud of the LCES, it appears the victim was injured while attempting to cut up a fallen tree on the property. The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating to determine the man’s exact cause of death, although no foul play is suspected.

The decedent's name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
