Lenoir County restaurant inspections
The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:
Hugo Grocery and Grill
2951 Hugo Road, Grifton
Date: 1/27
Score: 96.5
Observations:
Person in charge has expired ServSafe certificate.
Can opener blade had an accumulation of debris.
Potato salad was observed cooling on the counter at an initial EHS temperature of 112F.
Food employees wearing employees wearing jewelry and digital watch.
Single use spoons, knives and forks were observed to be stored in all directions with food contact side and handle side inter mixed.
Can opener is not a current ANSI certified can opener.
No caulk observed behind hand sinks throughout the facility still.
Observed hose in the basin of the canwash.
Ken’s Grill
7645 Hwy 70 W, La Grange

Observations:
Observed a food employee washing a wiping cloth in the handwash sink.
Observed slight pink and black build up on the underside of the ice machine shield/guard.
Chemical sanitizer in 3 comp sink was too strong.
Observed boxes of food product on the ground in the freezer.
Observed wet clothes on the counters.
2 styrofoam cups stored in the small dry ingredients on the shelf above the prep table by the back door, not approved.
Observed employee using gloves for more than one task.
Outside of cooking equipment, grills, fryers, etc. need additional cleaning.
Observed no back flow on can wash.
Observed wood being used to hold up plumbing under 3 comp sink in the supplemental cook room.
Smoke rooms walls and ceilings have build up of grease, dust, debris, and mold.
Smoke room ceiling above smoker in poor repair, freezer floor in poor repair.
Store mops for air drying after use. Mops in mop buckets and pilled on/in the can wash.
Bill's Grill

Observations:
No certified food protection manager on duty at the time of inspection.
Observed employees change tasks multiple times with out changing gloves or washing hands.
Chicken salad in prep unit had a made date of 1/13/27, past hold time.
Sanitizer in wiping cloth bucket was too strong, turned the test strip black.
Grease buildup outside the back door and along the back of the building.
Observed cook with out hair protection.
Observed employees using the same gloves for multiple tasks and wiping them dry before moving to other tasks.
Can opener is not ANSI certified.
Pile of broken equipment at the back of the restaurant around the back door.

Damaged floor tiles throughout.

Observed cooked chili stored under raw bacon and sausage in the reach in cooler on the cook line.
Chili was not date marked.
Observed 1 squeeze bottle on the 3 comp sink with blue dish soap without the common working name.
Wiping cloths stored in chlorine solution about 500ppm, too strong.
Ma's Hot Dog House & Grill
2515 Hwy 258 S, Kinston

Observations:
Employees observed cleaning their hands, turning off the faucet with their cleaned hands, and then drying with paper towels.
Back door has visible sunlight showing all around door.
Aroma rice steamer, stove, and fridge not for commercial use.
Rusted chipping shelves in reachi in units next to cook line.
Shelving is visibly soiled.
Some areas of floor are cracked and wall above prep table has chipping paint.
Walls, floors, and ceiling need additional cleaning.
Lighting above prep tables read 11 ft candles, should not be more than 50 ft.
