NWS: Period of strong winds expected beginning Monday night
We are expecting a period of strong (Gale Force) northerly winds beginning tonight and continuing into Wednesday morning. This will result in a threat for minor to moderate coastal flooding along the Outer Banks, with inundation 2-3 ft above ground level, especially around the time of high tide Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Minor soundside flooding (inundation 1-2 ft above ground level) is also expected along areas adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound. Rough surf and minor to locally moderate beach erosion expected for the beaches from Duck to Cape Hatteras. Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are also expected with this system from down east Carteret County to the Outer Banks.
