Library to Offer Concert from Professional Jazz Pianist Le’Andra McPhatter this Thursday

By Neuse Regional Libraries

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library is proud to present a performance by the talented and accomplished jazz pianist Le’Andra McPhatter this Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. Le’Andra will be backed by Dwayne Jordan on drums and Butler Knowles on bass.

The program will celebrate the rich history of African American musicians in Kinston in honor of Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States in 1865. The Library is currently displaying an exhibit on the history of Juneteenth as a historical and cultural celebration in the lobby of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library throughout the month of June.

A Kinston native, Le'Andra McPhatter is a thought-provoking artist, educator, author, influencer and speaker who prides herself in taking her listeners on a musical journey that leaves audiences feeling as warm and full as her North Carolina roots. LeAndra's start came from her musical family - learning tidbits of piano at 3 from her mom and dad, and performing for the first time in a local church by the age of 5.

Le'Andra has experience playing with many highly-acclaimed artists, who have toured internationally and were nominated for prestigious awards. These include Doobie Powell, Frank McComb, Dave Santoro, Shana Tucker, Branford Marsalis, Kierra Sheard, Lisa Simone (Nina Simone's daughter), and many more. She will be releasing an album, Like Home, Vol.1, in the fall of 2024 that features original jazz compositions on organ and piano.
