UPDATE: Teen who shot at law enforcement officers in La Grange taken into custody

UPDATE: Mr. Hardy was taken into custody without incident at 11:10 this morning on Washington Street in La Grange by LCSO deputies with assistance from the State Highway Patrol.

The search continues this morning for a 19-year-old Kinston man who shot at law enforcement officers last night in La Grange.

Jaiel Andrico Hardy, who also has known addresses in La Grange and Wayne County, is being sought by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies after an incident in downtown La Grange late Wednesday night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, an LCSO deputy checked on a suspicious vehicle at the La Grange Public Library, 119 E. Washington St., La Grange. After making contact with the sole occupant of the vehicle, Hardy, he fled the scene on foot. A firearm and a North Carolina ID were located inside the vehicle.

Deputies were searching the area when Hardy fired shots at them. The deputies took cover and Hardy fled on foot. Kinston Police Department officers, along with several deputies, responded to the area. Hardy was not apprehended at the time. No one was struck by the gunfire, although one patrol vehicle was struck.

Hardy is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts should immediately contact law enforcement.

Hardy has been issued warrants for three counts of attempted first degree murder on law enforcement officers and a count of resist, obstruct and delaying a law enforcement officer.
