UPDATE: Mr. Hardy was taken into custody without incident at 11:10 this morning on Washington Street in La Grange by LCSO deputies with assistance from the State Highway Patrol.
Increased crime in recent years has brought safety concerns to the forefront of many American’s minds. This is particularly true in our home state of North Carolina, where crime has been on the rise. For example, in Asheville, violent crime increased by 17.4 percent and aggravated assault increased by 21.8 percent from 2021 to 2022.
State and local officials have a simple message – never drink and drive. Doing so this weekend could mean a trip to jail rather than to the beach or pool.
The first interaction I had with law enforcement happened before I reached double digits in age. The sight of a police vehicle became synonymous with losing all that was familiar to me. While the fault was not the cops, they bore the brunt of my ill content. I spent years doing all that I could to never have to be in the same place as a cop.
On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, state officials are reminding people to never drink and drive.
For the next week, law enforcement agencies statewide will increase patrols to keep impaired drivers off the roads during the St. Patrick’s Day “Booze It & Lose It” enforcement campaign.
The Craven County Sheriff’s Office, Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement administration (DEA) investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dena J. King and Scott A. Lemmon prosecuted the case.
***ARMED AND DANGEROUS***
The multi-agency manhunt for Robert Lee Strother continued throughout the night Friday into Saturday morning in the Kennedy Home Road corridor. As the sun rises over Lenoir County this morning, more agencies will be on hand to assist the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, including Greene County, said LCSO Maj. Ryan Dawson. He also asked for the public’s aid in apprehending Strother, who has multiple felony charges pending after shooting LCSO Dep. Steven Key Thursday night and seriously wounding a Lenoir County resident Friday morning and stealing his truck.
“If anyone has any tips about this case, please call 252-559-6118,” Dawson said. “We also appreciate the thoughts and prayers from Lenoir County residents the past couple of days in regards to this situation.”
