Thursday evening storms cause damage in Lenoir County

Storms moving through Lenoir County have caused damage and knocked out power in some areas this evening.

Lenoir County 911 received multiple calls this evening reporting trees and power lines down in the area of N.C. 55 West, N.C. 903 South and Liddell Rd. A few residents also reported seeing a possible tornado in the same area.

The Sandy Bottom Volunteer Fire Department is on the scene working to remove trees and Tri-County EMC has been notified. Lenoir County Emergency Management (LCEM) is currently estimating up to 200 county residents without power.

An additional report of roof damage on a Global TransPark airport building has also been received but has not yet been confirmed by LCEM.

LCEM staff will be monitoring the situation throughout the night and will begin damage survey assessments Friday morning.
