Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Arby's 

4173 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 5/20

Score: 90.5

Observations: 

The lavatory on the front line was observed to have no soap available. paper towels were on the counter and not in the dispenser. 

he roast beef on the slicer was 115-124 degrees F. Maintain all hot foods at 135 degrees or greater.

Most of the items on the prep top temped above 41 degrees F.

A number of flies observed in the kitchen today. The fly fan at the back door is not working and service has been requested for this.

Some of the drink cups at the drive through are being splashed by the drink machine. A splash guard has been ordered but not received as of yet.

Throughout the facility all equipment needs better cleaning to remove grease, dust , food accumulation. Clean the racks, inside shelving of the WIC, inside the fry freezer, rolling cart, Alto-Shams, lower shelving in slicer/prep areas, exterior of dish machine even though it is out of order, counter at drive through by the drink machine, Au jus area , inside lower prep refrigerator, cutting boards on prep unit.

The bathroom fixtures need cleaning and all the sinks and lavatories need to be cleaned more thoroughly.

One dumpster door was open.

Some floor tiles broken and holding water. some floor areas including the freezer need better cleaning.


Bojangles

Observations: 

Sausage Patties and Supremes measured temperature under 135. Sausage patties were 120 and chicken supremes ranged from 117-125. 

Lemons uncovered in both drink dispenser locations. Keep covered to prevent contamination.

Observed employees with facial hair not wearing beard guards.

Observed ice scoops being stored on top drink trays with the scoop faced down on top of the grate that catches the spillover soda.

All drying dishes observed stacked wet.

Build up observed at bottom of refrigerators and freezers, in gaskets on equipment, and fryers.

Dumpster doors open, these shall remain closed to prevent contamination from items spilling out or insects, animals, etc from getting in.

Build up of food, grease, dirt, flour, etc. throughout establishment. Walls around Bo Chicken and Sweet Tea area have splatters and stains over the wall due to spillage and use of area. Heavy cleaning is needed around establishment.

Employee belongings and drinks stored with single service items in storage area.


Burger King 

2015 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Score: 94.5

Observations: 

The one door refrigerator up front where orange juice, milk and iced coffee are kept is reading 49 degrees F.

The thermometer in the drink refrigerator that is not cooling adequately is not functional. 

The bottle of water used to pour on the egg cooker shall be labeled as such so that everyone knows it is water.

Stock was delivered this morning and the facility has a large number of flies. 

The refrigerator storing liquid eggs has water ponding on bottom. This water is getting soiled and leaks out the door onto the floor. The milk/oj refrigerator is not keeping proper temperature.

Clean the white ketchup dispensers, sink faucets, exterior of fountain drink machine at drive thru. Observed debris buildup.

Observed grease/water/ or syrupy buildup along wall behind drink storage at drive through, around the food prep sink and around the grease bin area. Clean up the buildup.


Byrd's Restaurant 

196 Hwy 58 South, Kinston

Observations: 

Observed food employee taste food and walk away without stopping to wash hands, as well as another employee crack an egg and poured milk into the bowl.

Sanitizer in bucket with wiping cloths (as well as spray bottle sanitizer) was too weak.

Bottom grate missing from RIC in the kitchen.

Observed build up of dust, dirt, residue, etc on the doors of the reach in coolers, bottom of coolers, bottom of shelves, etc.

Dust observed on a/c vents and the wall behind the biscuit/pancake station has splatters on it.

Floors, walls, and ceilings including the attachments such as soap and towel dispensers; light fixtures; and heat/ac vents shall be maintained in good repair. Broken tiles observed throughout the kitchen. 

Captain's Corner 

711 Plaza Boulevard, Kinston

Observations:

Items in cooler under prep top and reach in cooler missing date marking: Ham, Slaw, and Chicken Salad.

Employee observed wearing apple watch.

Dumpster door open and lid open.


Chef & The Farmer

120 W Gordon Street, Kinston

Observations: 

No ServSafe certified manager present.

Employee hand wash sinks do not have trash can or waste receptacle readily available or in the area of the hand wash sinks.

A few stainless pans were observed with baked on food and were not thoroughly cleaned well. 

The plates that are being used for the kitchen bar are being stored in a closet. They were observed to have tiny pieces of debris on them.

Small plates in dish room were observed with black specs/debris on them as well, PIC stated that these will not be used for food purposes, but as an art piece or décor.

Tomato Pie filling made yesterday did not cool properly as the temperatures recorded were between 41-44 depending on the placement of the thermometer.

Labels were missing from several containers of Viv's kitchen food.

Observed person in charge wearing watch and bracelet. 

Prep unit cooler on front line has a leak and the others are not holding temperature well.

Build up of crumbs, debris, etc observed at the bottom of the refrigerators for Viv' Kitchen, on the bottom shelf of the prep table in kitchen, on the racks in the freezer, etc.

Dumpster was observed to be open.

In the dish room area, there are places were the grout is missing from the tiles. Rust was observed on the a/c vents.

Build up of dirt, crumbs, debris, etc are present on the floors, walls and cleanings. Dust build up is present on and around a/c vents on ceiling. 


Crossroads Bar & Grill

8136 Hwy 55 W, Kinston

Observations:

Hotdogs dated for 3/16/24 and sausage dated for 2/16/24 in the reaching unit.

Wet wiping cloth stored inform of hot well. Wiping cloths shall be stored in a chemical sanitizer solution.

Observations:

he WIC thermometer was reading 43 upon entering. All foods were at least 42 degrees f. Cold foods shall be 41 or less.

better cleaning needed on prep table holding tomato slicer. Clean the label maker and under it. Clean inside small freezers. Oven needs cleaning and underneath counter mount equipment.

There continues to be a massive amount of grease running down grease bin and covering dumpster pad. the dumpster is open is very greasy and soiled. Have the dumpster cleaned and the grease receptacle and pad.

Floor tiles are still broken and wall need cleaning everywhere.
