Virginia man driving a stolen vehicle leads officers on a vehicle pursuit

Officers from KPD's B-Squad received information related to a vehicle being driven with a stolen license plate. Officers located the vehicle in the area of W King Street and S Herritage Street. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the driver failed to stop and fled from officers. The driver led officers on a vehicle pursuit before crashing into a utility pole on the 300 block of W Washington Avenue. The driver jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. During this time Lenoir County Sherriff's Department and the NC Highway Patrol responded for assistance.

A perimeter was set up and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Conducted a K-9 track that led to the offender. The offender was hiding in some bushes on the 300 block of Atlantic Avenue and was taken into custody. He was identified as Stephan Jones (18 of Norfolk, VA). Officers discovered that the vehicle Jones was driving was also previously report stolen from Virginia.

Jones was charged with the following:

-Felony Flee to Elude

-Resisting Public Officer

-Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle

-Possession With Intent to Sell/Deliver Schedule VI

-Possession of Stolen Goods

-Financial Card Theft (4 Counts)

-Hit & Run

-No Operator License
