Allegations of animal cruelty surface in Lenoir County
Videos circulating online nationwide, which originated from Lenoir County, have raised concerns over potential animal cruelty. The videos, which have garnered significant attention on social media, appears to show a man harming dogs.
The individual in question is reported to be Matt Neal of Pink Hill, who is the owner and head trainer of East Carolina Retrievers. The company is known for offering obedience training, hunting training, and field trials.
Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers addressed the situation, stating, "I am aware of a disturbing video that is circulating on social media depicting someone harming an animal. The case is being investigated by Lenoir County Animal Control. That is all the information we can share at this moment."
According to North Carolina General Statute § 14-360, any person who intentionally tortures, mutilates, maims, cruelly beats, disfigures, poisons, or kills an animal could be guilty of a Class H felony. This statute outlines that maliciously torturing or cruelly beating an animal is considered a serious offense under state law, carrying potential penalties including imprisonment and fines.
East Carolina Retrievers has not yet issued a statement regarding the allegations. Neuse News reached out to Mr. Neal, and as of this time, we have not received a reply. The investigation by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
