Obituary: Frances (Honey) Hatcher Fuller

Frances (Honey) Hatcher Fuller passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 5, 2024, at the age of seventy-nine years old.

A Memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Honey was born May 17, 1945, in Quantico, Virginia to the late Frances Joesphine (Brabson) Hatcher and Harry Price. When Honey and her younger sister were very young, they were adopted by William (Bud) Hatcher of Richmond Virginia. Honey was mostly raised in Greenville, Tennessee at Westerly, the Brabson Family home. Later the Hatchers moved to Kinston to open the Kinston Tobacco Company.

Honey is survived by her husband of 22 years, Lyndon, her daughters, Frances Jackson Herring, (Mark), Elizabeth Jackson Mabery, (Randy), grandchildren, Mason Jackson, Jane Herring, and Jack Herring, Ryan Mabery and Kelsey Mabery. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Fleming Fuller III, Chelsea Fuller Wann, Dr. Adair Fuller Quick (Jeremy). She is also survived by her cats, Buffy and Fitzsimmons. Honey is preceded in death by her late husband of 17 years, George Moore Jackson, and the father to her children.

She is also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret H. Bowen, and both parents. Honey graduated from Grainger High School in Kinston, North Carolina in 1963 followed by Women’s College (WC), later renamed the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received a Bachelor of Arts in French in 1967 from UNCG and a Masters in School Counseling from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1971. She was a very talented linguist and a brilliant student. It is also safe to say that she earned an “honorary” law degree while her husband, George, was in law school at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University where it is said she wrote many papers and helped study for many exams. She taught high school French in Greensboro and Sanford, North Carolina and Birmingham, Alabama. She was a no-nonsense teacher who loved the French language and the students she taught.

Honey traveled through Europe with family and friends over the years and was an avid reader and a master at needlepoint. She cherished her family above all else and was a fierce and loving mother and grandmother. While she wanted her grandchildren to call her “Grandmere”, her grandson, Mason, settled on “Gommer” and it stuck forevermore.

The family would like to thank Honey’s wonderful caregivers, especially, Diedra Cox and Anita Williams. The family would also like to thank 3HC for their help over the past few years in helping to look after Honey and keep her at home during her extended illness. Memorial contributions and remembrances may be made for the Backpack Buddies program at First Presbyterian Church, 2101 N. Herritage St, Kinston, NC 28501. Arrangements made by Edwards Funeral Home & Cremations. Online condolences may be expressed at www.edwardsfhc.com.
