Obituary: Linda “Susan” Kellum Lucas

Linda “Susan” Kellum Lucas, age 70, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. She was born September 11, 1953, in Kinston, NC to Charles Kellum, Jr. and Joyce Kellum. She was predeceased by her father, Charles Kellum, Jr.

A 1971 graduate of Kinston High School, Linda was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. Throughout her life she worked in various roles, including BB&T, Vermillion Vending and Down East Protection prior to her retirement. Even in retirement, Linda continued her passion for work as an office manager for her son’s company, Lucas Contracting, LLC. Among her many accomplishments, Linda was proud to have served as a notary public.

Linda was a devout member of The Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. Her selflessness and dedication were evident in every aspect of her life. Linda cherished her family deeply, particularly her grandchildren, never missing any of their events, including long, scorching summer days on the softball field, cheering on her granddaughters.

In her free time, Linda enjoyed traveling, watching her grandchildren play sports and spending time at the river. Her warmth and joy touched everyone she met and her absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew her.

Linda is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clarence Lucas; mother, Joyce Kellum; son, Brian Lucas and wife, Melissa Lucas; daughter, Kimberly Elkins and husband, Kaydee Elkins; her beloved grandchildren, Logan Lucas, Addyson Lucas, Michael Lucas and Mason Basden; sister, Sandra Daughety and husband, Ralph Daughety; brother, Charles “Chuck” Kellum III and wife, Laura Dale Kellum.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, Pruitt Health Hospice and the Palliative Care team for their exceptional care and comfort provided to Linda during her illness. They also want to thank all the family and friends for their love and support during this challenging time.

Linda will be deeply missed but her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in Linda’s honor.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Howard-Carter Funeral Home.
