Arendell Parrott Academy celebrates 60th anniversary on first day of school

Arendell Parrott Academy (APA) marked its 60th year as students returned to school on Monday, with enrollment numbers reaching 651 students from 10 counties. The milestone was celebrated with excitement by staff, students and parents alike, as they reflected on the Academy’s history and looked forward to the year ahead.

David Moody, Head of School of APA.

David Moody, Head of School of APA, expressed enthusiasm about the start of the school year. "Feeling great, campus looks great. Kids are ready to go. Parents were excited this morning, and we're just ready for the celebration throughout the school year," Moody said. He credited the school’s longevity to the vision of its founders, adding, "It's a testament to our forefathers that founded [APA]. Mr. and Mrs. Parrott had a vision and 60 years later, here we are, so we're looking forward to the school year and a great celebration."

APA, which was established 60 years ago, has grown significantly over the decades, offering a broad curriculum guided by its four pillars: academics, fine arts, athletics, and service. “There’s truly something there for everybody,” Moody said. “But beyond the academic excellence, it’s a family atmosphere.”

Raven Edwards, administrative assistant to the head of school and parent of a senior, described her mixed emotions about the year ahead. "This year, it's bittersweet. It's exciting because it's time for him to grow and spread his wings, but it's bittersweet because he's my last baby at home," Edwards said, referring to her son, Seth Edwards. She added, "It's exciting to be able to work with him and see him every day also."

Seth Edwards, her son, shared his anticipation for the upcoming school year. "We're excited. We all cooked breakfast this morning out in the parking lot just to get excited and to start getting those last memories together," he said. "We're glad to be part of this historic year, and I hope to celebrate with them."

APA’s commitment to fostering a close-knit community was echoed by Claire Valliere, Director of Admissions and Marketing. Valliere emphasized the importance of the school’s "Patriot family" and the opportunities provided to students. "The students we have at the school are amazing. The teachers that are here are amazing teachers that are all about really building up our students," Valliere said.

As APA embarks on its 60th year, the school community is poised to honor its history while continuing to provide a supportive and enriching environment for its students.
