The N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission (NCTTFC) awarded more than $6.6 million through 26 grants for agricultural and economic initiatives across the state. These grants place a high priority on projects that stimulate the agricultural economy, train current and future farmers and help farmers execute innovative ideas.
Arendell Parrott Academy kicked off its 60th year Thursday with a Founders Day celebration featuring Susan Parrott, sister of the school’s namesake. Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) is announcing the winners of the 2024 Third District of North Carolina Congressional Art Competition. The Congressional Art Competition is an annual, nationwide event for high school students to showcase their artistic abilities. Each congressional district's winning piece of artwork is hung in the Cannon Tunnel to the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
In a prestigious event held in Greensboro on January 27, Arendell Parrot Academy senior Haynes Lewis was named Distinguished Young Woman of North Carolina.
“I was very surprised,” said Lewis. “I was on stage with so many capable and amazing young women. Any one of them would have been capable of representing our state. I feel very honored to be able to represent North Carolina but most especially to be able to represent that group of amazing young women.”

Mr. Randy Lamont (R.J.) Cummings, a senior at Parrott Academy, recently completed a week as page to Governor Cooper. During the week, Mr. Cummings created a policy proposal for the Department of Environmental Quality
Arendell Parrott Academy student, Killen Harper, a semi-finalist for the NCSU Park Scholarship. At graduation, Killen will have completed 11 of the 15 AP courses offered at Parrott. She is a member of APA’s SERV club.
In a recent email to parents, Arendell Parrott Academy announced plans to make adjustments to COVID-19 policies effective Monday, February 14, 2022. Those plans include mask-optional for students, staff, visitors, and sporting events, and continuing to require masks on buses and vans in compliance with federal law.

He discussed COVID-19 symptoms, how he and his partners are treating patients, how to protect yourself, and more. Dr. Gallaher is a native of Kinston, a graduate of Arendell Parrott Academy and worked extensively on H1N1 during medical school.
An update from Dr. Bert Bright: In the interest of safety and after consultation with many authorities, we have decided to keep our campus closed and continue online instruction through April 17, 2020. All school-related activities and ceremonies that were planned from March 16 through April 17 have been canceled, including Terra Nova testing and our prom. (Given the stated importance of the prom to our students, if we return to school later this spring we will consider rescheduling a modified prom event.)
