LCSO: Vehicle chase ends in arrest
A vehicle chase started in Lenoir County and wove its way through Craven County before ending in Jones County Thursday night with the arrest of the driver on multiple charges.
Just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a silver Dodge Avenger on U.S. 70 near Barwick Station Road. The driver — Skyler Potter, 23, of North Topsail Beach — was discovered to have an outstanding order for arrest from Pender County.
When deputies approached his vehicle, Potter fled the scene in his vehicle. A chase ensued by LCSO deputies; the chase went through a portion of Craven County and ended in Jones County when tire deflation devices were employed.
Potter was taken into custody and received the following charges from Lenoir County:
· Felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle
· Possession of drug paraphernalia
· Reckless driving
· Stop sign violations
· Speeding 80 in a 35 mph zone
· Unregistered motor vehicle
· No insurance
· Failure to maintain lane
His order for arrest from Pender County was a felony for offering bribes.
Potter received a $25,000 secured bond for the Lenoir County charges and a $20,000 secured bond for the Pender County charges.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to the law enforcement officers in Jones County, the Kinston Police Department, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol for their assistance in this incident,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “I’d also like to commend Lenoir County Communications for their management of radio traffic between all the agencies; their assistance was vital to the success of this event.”
