Suspect arrested in structure fire investigation

On September 25, 2024, at approximately 7:57 PM, Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad responded to a structure fire at 610 E Caswell Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with residents and witnesses, gathering information about the incident. No injuries were reported to the officers.

Investigators learned that Dorne Maye, 52, of Kinston, was possibly responsible for the fire. Earlier that day, Maye allegedly threatened to kill residents and had broken windows at the residence.

The KPD Crime Lab and detectives arrived to further investigate the scene. Meanwhile, a patrol officer located Maye at the intersection of Carey Road and Vernon Avenue. He was detained and taken to KPD Headquarters for questioning.

Following a thorough investigation, detectives charged Maye with three counts of Attempted Murder and 1st Degree Arson. He is currently held at the Lenoir County Jail.
