Obituary: Sarah Ellen White Archie

Raleigh

Sarah Ellen Archie passed away peacefully on January 4th at home with Joe Archie, her husband of 64 years, by her side. She is survived by three children and their spouses: Sarah and Don, Patrick and Liz, and Tom and Haynes and by six grandchildren: Barron, Patrick, Jack, Greyson, Mae, and Sadie.

Sarah Ellen, daughter of Thomas J White and Virginia Edwards White, grew up in Kinston, North Carolina with her sisters Isabel and Virginia and brother Tommy. She adored her large extended family including many aunts, uncles, and cousins who helped to raise her. She spent summers at her beloved Camp Morehead on Bogue Sound which was started and operated for many years by her Uncle Pat and Aunt Sarah Crawford. Sarah Ellen and Joe met as teenagers at Grainger High School and married in 1960.

Sarah Ellen lived a full life and especially enjoyed time with friends and family. She loved music and singing and dancing, early morning jogs and walks, her many dogs, travel, pulling weeds, being in nature and especially the North Carolina coast. She was devoted to her alma mater Saint Mary’s School and to Christ Episcopal Church in Raleigh where she served on the vestry and for many years assisted with the Wake Relief food pantry.

Sarah Ellen was graceful and generous. She was a loyal and thoughtful friend, loved by many and will be missed by all of us.

Our family would like to thank Charles Wehbie, MD, Elizabeth Abashora, and Transitions LifeCare for taking such good care of Sarah Ellen as her health declined.

A celebration of Sarah Ellen’s life will be held on Saturday, February 8th at 1pm at Christ Church in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Wake County.

Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh is serving the Archie family.
