Kinston man arrested for assault and firing weapon in residence

A Lenoir County man is behind bars after allegedly physically assaulting a woman and shooting a firearm inside a residence.

Greg Audiz Marquiz Griffin, 34, of Kinston, was arrested Tuesday on a domestic violence charge and firing a weapon inside an occupied property.

On Tuesday, deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Ridgewood Drive residence after being called for a domestic disturbance. Dispatch had advised deputies a female victim at the residence had been physically assaulted and that a suspect had fired multiple rounds from a firearm inside the residence.

When deputies arrived at the residence, they detained the suspect and started their investigation. It revealed that Griffin had physically assaulted and strangled the victim. Multiple shell casings and a firearm were collected as evidence.

Deputies concluded the investigation and arrested Griffin; he was transported to the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office for processing. At the Magistrate’s Office, he was charged with:

• One misdemeanor count of crime of domestic violence

• One count of assault by pointing a gun

• One felony count of assault by strangulation

• One felony count of discharging a weapon inside occupied property.

Griffin received no bond due to the charges being domestic in nature.
