Traffic stop near La Grange leads to drug and firearm arrest

A Kinston man was arrested on drug charges and for carrying a concealed gun while a Raleigh woman received charges for driving without a license and other driving violations following a traffic stop on Sunday on U.S. 70 near La Grange.

Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office B-Shift patrol officers stopped a Lexus driven by Victoria Pickett, 39, for a window tint violation. During the stop, Pickett told officers she did not have a valid driver’s license, the vehicle’s registration was not up to date and the insurance was invalid. The passenger, Thaddeux Jackson, 44, of Kinston, provided his license to officers.

The resulting search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of marijuana, a firearm and drug paraphernalia.

Jackson was charged with:

·      Felony possession with intent to sell, manufacture or distribute marijuana

·      Misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun

·      Possession of drug paraphernalia

He was given a $10,000 unsecured bond for the charges.

Pickett was charged with:

·      Driving while license revoked

·      No liability insurance

·      Window tint violation

·      Failure to register a motor vehicle

·      License plate frame cover violation

She was given a written promise to appear.
