Fugitive wanted for attempted murder found dead in Greene County
On 01/21/2024 around 7:00 am, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office along with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office were asked to assist the US Marshal Service with locating a Fugitive at a residence on Rouse Chapel Rd in Greene County. The Marshal Service conducted their own investigation into locating 38-year-old Charles Edward Williams of Pollocksville at the residence on Rouse Chapel Rd. Williams was wanted on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill of a Law Enforcement Officer in Jones County, from an incident that occurred in November of 2024.
After numerous attempts to get Williams to come out of the residence, the US Marshal Service entered the home around 9:00 am and located Williams who was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Law Enforcement on scene secured the area and Sheriff Sasser contacted the NC SBI to investigate the incident. No other individuals were located inside the home and no one else was injured.
