Fourth-grade students from Lenoir County Public Schools dove into history this week at the CSS Neuse Museum, where 640 young learners experienced life as it was in the 19th century. Organized over the past year by Program Coordinator Rachel Kennedy in collaboration with LCPS Director of Elementary Education Stacy Cauley, the multi-day field trip featured interactive lessons on naval stores, 19th-century toys and games, sailor life, and even a scavenger hunt around the museum.

“Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Que graciously and generously sponsored this field trip, which made it possible to happen,” said Keith Hayes, Treasure of the Friends of the CSS Neuse Museum. “This is the 3rd year in a row that Smithfield’s has sponsored this event.”

Also at the event were Keith Thompson, Area Director for Smithfield’s; Keith Hayes and Matthew Young, the museum’s site director.
