Jeanne Kennedy honored with 2024 Pinnacle Award

Jeanne Kennedy, Executive Director of the Lenoir Community College Foundation, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Pinnacle Award by the Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce. The award, presented annually to an outstanding businesswoman who has made a significant impact on the community, was originally set to be awarded at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet on January 28. However, since Kennedy was scheduled to be in New Orleans for a training to assist Lenoir Community College with writing its first-ever NSF-ATE grant, a special presentation was held earlier that day at LCC.

Chamber President Cale Grady, along with Kennedy’s colleagues and family members, gathered for the presentation. Richy Huneycutt, a longtime colleague and friend and last year’s Pinnacle Award recipient, delivered remarks highlighting Kennedy’s leadership, mentorship, and dedication to the college and community. "She is one of the most thoughtful and kind individuals I’ve ever met," Huneycutt said. "She leads by example and works tirelessly to promote the programs and initiatives not only at the College but also in the community."

That evening, at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet at Kinston Country Club, Kennedy’s daughter, Amanda Hudson, accepted the award on her mother’s behalf. Kennedy, who has served LCC since 2000, has been instrumental in securing millions in grants and scholarships for students, spearheading fundraising initiatives, and leading efforts that have expanded educational opportunities in the region. Under her leadership, the LCC Foundation’s assets have grown to more than $14 million, awarding over $430,000 in scholarships annually.

LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt praised Kennedy’s dedication and impact, saying, "Jeanne’s passion for Lenoir Community College and our students is unmatched. She works tirelessly to open doors of opportunity through scholarships and fundraising, and we are incredibly proud to see her recognized with this well-deserved honor."

Upon receiving the award, Kennedy expressed her surprise and gratitude. "I love the people I work with, I love Lenoir Community College, and I love Lenoir County," she said. "Thank you, I am truly honored to join such a wonderful group of women. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought that this was a possibility."

Kennedy’s unwavering commitment to education, workforce development, and community service continues to make a lasting impact, solidifying her legacy as a leader and advocate for Lenoir County.
