Elizabeth Hamm, E.B. Frink Middle School’s Teacher of the Year, has been awarded the NC Go Global Scholarship, allowing her to participate in a professional development program in the Netherlands this summer. The announcement was made at the Lenoir County Public Schools Board of Education meeting on February 3rd.
According to Superintendent M. Brent Williams, this program will give Hamm the opportunity to see "how Dutch schools and municipalities collaborate to raise achievement levels, how disadvantaged students are integrated into classrooms, and the role of high-quality vocational education in post-graduation outcomes."
Hamm, who teaches agriculture education at E.B. Frink Middle School, expressed her excitement about the opportunity. "I'm just excited to go and learn more about basically the big thing with sustainable agriculture and how they're doing it in the Netherlands so I can witness it firsthand," she said. She also plans to make connections with students in the Netherlands so her students can "hopefully Skype or speak with students in classrooms in the Netherlands so they get a look outside of the range."
