Parrott Academy Students Shine in NCASA Art Showcase Competition

Parrott Academy students recently showcased their artistic talents in the North Carolina Association of Scholastic Activities (NCASA) Art Showcase Competition, responding to the theme inspired by the song Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. Competing across three divisions—Elementary, Middle, and Upper School—students created works in various mediums within a tight timeframe, demonstrating both creativity and technical skill.

The Lower School team, composed of talented 5th graders and coached by Mrs. Samantha Rouse, claimed first place in the region, triumphing over eight other schools. Individual regional champions included:

  • Tierney Grove (Drawing)

  • Katie Wilson (Printmaking)

  • Charlie Braxton (Collage)

  • Anna Huntley Arnette (Painting)

  • Thomas Woodcock (Mixed Media)

  • Samuel Serkin (Sculpture)

The Middle School team, also coached by Mrs. Samantha Rouse, continued Parrott’s streak of excellence by securing first place, defeating nine competing schools. Top regional scores were earned by:

  • Daniel VanFosson (Film and Animation)

  • Grace Bofferding (Sculpture)

  • Lilly Claire Jones (Digital Media)

  • Macie Reese Davenport (Mixed Media)

  • Hazlee Pridgen (Collage)

  • Kenley Mooring (Printmaking)

  • Langley Christensen (Painting)

Additionally, Anna Perdue (Drawing) and Harrison Kuszyk (Photography) achieved the second-highest scores in their categories.

The Upper School team, coached by Mrs. Jana Miller, also made a strong showing, earning second place overall and advancing to the state competition. Highlights included:

  • Brice Brodish (Film and Animation) – Highest regional score

  • Gigi Johnson (Painting), Anatoli Hnatov (Mixed Media), Katy Ta (Collage), and Thomas Jones (Printmaking) – Second-highest scores in their respective categories

  • Sarah Wentz (Drawing) and Daemyn Hort (Sculpture) – Third place in the region

Congratulations to all the Parrott Academy artists and their dedicated coaches for their remarkable achievements! Their creativity and teamwork will be put to the test again this weekend in Winston Salem at the State Championships.
