Severe weather expected Wednesday across eastern North Carolina

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of strong storms and hazardous conditions as a cold front moves through Eastern North Carolina on Wednesday.

Key Impacts:

  • High Winds: Strong winds, even outside of storms, could be hazardous.

  • Coastal Concerns: Hazardous seas may cause minor beach erosion and localized overwash, especially for vulnerable shorelines.

  • Severe Thunderstorms: Increased risk of storms producing damaging wind gusts (60+ mph) and a low-end tornado threat.

  • Heavy Rain: Rainfall totals of 0.5" to 1.5" may lead to minor flooding.

Officials advise residents to stay weather-aware and monitor updates. Additional briefings will be provided as needed.
