DISASTER RECOVERY FOR WNC

This week, the NC House passed the Disaster Recovery Act of 2025 to provide $500 million in additional relief for communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. This bill funds home repairs, road & bridge restoration, small business recovery, and agricultural aid — helping Western North Carolina rebuild stronger than ever.

RE-APPOINTED CHAIR OF INSURANCE

I am grateful to Speaker Destin Hall for re-appointing me to serve as Chairman of the House Committee on Insurance. I remain committed to ensuring our state’s insurance policies promote a strong, competitive marketplace for the benefit of all North Carolinians.

2025-26 COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

I am deeply honored to serve in these leadership capacities, particularly in areas that directly impact the well-being of North Carolinians.

As always, my priority is serving the people of District 12 and working to create a better future for all North Carolinians.

I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance policies that promote economic growth, public safety, and the overall well-being of our great state.

NO TAX ON TIPS

I'm proud to be a co-sponsor of the No Tax on Tips, Overtime, and Bonus Pay Act (House Bill 11). Hardworking North Carolinians deserve to keep more of what they earn, especially those who rely on tips, overtime, and bonuses to support their families.

This common-sense legislation rewards hard work, helps businesses fill positions, and boosts take-home pay for workers across our state.

HOSTING LENOIR COUNTY CTE STUDENTS

Had a great time meeting with Career & Technical Education students from Lenoir County at the NC General Assembly! It’s encouraging to see young people preparing for the workforce and gaining valuable skills for the future. I’m committed to continued investment in CTE programs — they’re essential for building a strong economy and supporting local industries.

JONES COUNTY K-12 SCHOOL OWNERSHIP TRANSFER CEREMONY

It was an honor to attend the Jones County K-12 School Ownership Transfer Ceremony, celebrating a successful public-private partnership that delivered a state-of-the-art, energy-positive school without raising taxes. This project was made possible by a grant from the NC General Assembly, establishing a model for rural education. Congratulations to all who made this vision a reality!

GREENE COUNTY SHERIFF'S NEW MOBILE APP

Greene County residents now have a new way to stay informed and connected, thanks to Sheriff Matt Sasser and his team — who have launched a free mobile app, giving you quick access to news, alerts, and important updates from their office.

The Sheriff's Office will continue using Facebook, but this app provides a more direct and convenient way to stay up to date. Download it today on Apple or Android devices and stay connected to what’s happening in Greene County.

INSREASING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE

I’m honored to join Representative Erin Paré as a sponsor of House Bill 156, which expands access to stop-loss, catastrophic, and reinsurance coverage for small businesses. By lowering the minimum employee threshold from 12 to 5, we’re making it easier for small employers to provide affordable healthcare options.

This is a pro-business, pro-worker reform that ensures North Carolina’s small businesses remain competitive while giving employees more security. Looking forward to working with my colleagues to get this passed through the NC General Assembly!

SUPPORTING NEUSE REGIONAL LIBRARY

It was a pleasure to welcome Melanie Morgan, Director of the Neuse Regional Library, to our office in Raleigh. The Neuse Regional Library plays a vital role in serving the people of Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties — offering resources and opportunities that enrich the lives of our citizens.

I’m grateful for Melanie’s leadership and will continue to support the important mission of making our libraries the centers of learning, innovation, and connection for the region.

FFA DAY IN RALEIGH

It was an honor to have FFA students from South Lenoir High School visit our office in Raleigh this month! Always great to see young leaders engaged in our state’s agricultural future.

MEETING WITH ALZHEIMER'S ADVOCATES

It was a pleasure to meet with Alzheimer’s advocates in Raleigh earlier this month. These individuals shared powerful stories and critical insights on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on North Carolina families. It is critical that we continue supporting research, raising awareness, and ensuring access to resources for those affected.

STATE GRANT FOR NC GLOBAL TRANSPARK

Lenoir County has secured a $1.9 million grant from the state to improve sewer infrastructure at the North Carolina Global TransPark, supporting the U.S. Navy’s new Fleet Readiness Center! This project is expected to create 311 new jobs, providing aircraft maintenance and repair services for the C-130 military aircraft. This investment is a huge win for our economy and workforce, bringing more opportunities to Eastern North Carolina and strengthening our region’s role in aviation and military support!
