Greenville man arrested after endangering children, fleeing with loaded rifle
A Greenville man was arrested early this morning by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies after putting his two minor children in danger by driving recklessly and by returning to the scene of a disturbance with a loaded rifle.
Keshaun Emmanuel Strickland, 33, was arrested by LCSO A-Shift patrol deputies when they were dispatched to the 800 block of Alphin Road for a disturbance call. Dispatch advised the deputies that Strickland had left the residence with two minor children and that he had threatened to return to the residence with a firearm.
In their investigation, deputies learned that before they arrived, Strickland had an altercation with another party at the residence. As deputies were gathering information, they observed a vehicle approaching the Alphin Road residence before suddenly turning around and attempting to flee the area at a high rate of speed. Before deputies could catch up to the vehicle, it drove into a ditch and was disabled.
Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as Strickland. They also discovered two minor children in the vehicle who were not secured in seat belts. Both children sustained injuries during the collision and were treated and released on scene by Lenoir County EMS.
While deputies secured the vehicle, they located a loaded AR-15-style rifle outside the vehicle. Deputies also confirmed that Strickland is a convicted felon. The State Highway Patrol was called to the scene to investigate the incident and to conduct a DWI investigation.
Strickland was transported to the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office, where he was charged with two felony counts of neglect child abuse with serious physical injury and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. The Highway Patrol charged Strickland with driving while impaired.
Strickland received a $101,500 secured bond for the charges.
