Obituary: Billy Ray Hussey
November 13, 1940 - March 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billy Ray Hussey who peacefully departed this world on March 30, 2025 at the age of 84. Born on November 13,1940 in Goldsboro, NC to L. E. "Buddy" and Dorothy Hussey, he lived a life filled with love and devotion to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; L. E. "Buddy" and Dorothy Hussey and his grandson-in-law; Sgt. William Joshua Turner.
Billy dedicated 34 years of his career to DuPont, where was known for his dedication and unwavering work ethic. Early in life, outside of work, he could be found at the Kinston Drag Strip where he took great interest and loved racing cars or at the bowling alley. Billy was most known for his strong-will, competitiveness, and his “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” personality.
In addition to his work and hobbies, he had a talent for fixing everything with duct tape and DuPont twine. He took great pride in being a grandfather and enjoyed taking his grandchildren on vacations every summer. He was always there supporting them in everything they did from ball games, to recitals, and racing. He was a member of Armenia Christian Church and could always be found on the back right side every Sunday morning. He had a deep love for Eastern NC BBQ and he was a dedicated customer to Morris’. A man of unwavering integrity and a true pillar of strength, Billy leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a deep commitment to family.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Jean Martin Hussey, daughters; Michelle (Lee) Hill, Kim (Curtis) Smith; “adopted daughter”, Jimi (Chris) Paderick, brother, Thomas “Bones” (Bonnie) Hussey and sister, Cheryl (Carson) Mooring; his grandchildren: Justin (Jessica) Hill, Kaci (Josh) Turner, David Ball (Rebecca), Elizabeth Turner, Elizabeth Carol Smith (Dorian), and Dr. Amanda Smith (Cecil) Jones. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Titus and Laney Hill, Charlotte and Catherine Turner, and Sydney Ball.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Armenia Christian Church, with visitation after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Armenia Christian Church in his honor.
