Honoring Our Lifeline: National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

                                                            April 14–20, 2025

This week, we proudly recognize the incredible work of our Jones-Lenoir County public safety telecommunicators—the calm, professional voices on the other end of the line during our most critical moments. Whether it’s a fire, a medical emergency, or a law enforcement matter, they are the true first first responders. In 2013, Jones and Lenoir counties consolidated their 911 services to form the Jones-Lenoir County Emergency Communication Center. For over 12 years, our dedicated telecommunicators have provided critical support to 32 different agencies in both counties, answering emergency calls and dispatching Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, and Animal Control services

In 2024, our communications center received 139,913 phone calls in which generated 91,276 dispatches for service for fire, law enforcement, animal control, and EMS. Examples of those calls dispatched for both counties are as follows:

  • 2,926 Wrecks

  • 827 Welfare checks

  • 513 Break-ins

  • 136 Structure fires

  • 115 Cardiac arrests

Behind each of these numbers is a dispatcher who provided clarity in chaos, comfort in crisis, and coordination for response.

We celebrate their dedication, professionalism, and the vital role they play in keeping our community safe. Thank you for being the unseen heroes—every hour, every shift, every call.

Happy National Telecommunicator Week!
