The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Golden China Buffet

4147 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 4/01

Score: 97

Observations: 

Food left uncovered in walk-in cooler. 

Some food in prep unit was stored in direct contact with ice. 

Food on shelves stored in close proximity to tools. 

Gasket on reach-in freezer is tearing. 

Walk-in cooler floor is separating at one of the seems. 

Gaskets on reach-in freezer, floor in walk-in cooler under underside of shelving, above prep unit, top of oven, and some handles of equipment need additional cleaning. 

Little Caesars

111 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager on duty. 

The labels used on the pizza sauce are not clear. 

Wet wiping cloths were laying on the back dough station table. Cloths should be in buckets with proper sanitizing solution. 

The can-opener is not ANSI approved now as it is not easy to disassemble for cleaning. 

Inside the prep refrigerator and the top shelf of it need additional cleaning. 

Black carts and lower shelves of prep tables need to be cleaned. 

The dumpster does not have a plug, the doors are open and both lids are broken off. 

McDonald's

4194 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

Better daily cleaning is need on the exterior surfaces of much of the equipment such as the top of the dishwasher, the surfaces around the drink station at the drive through, the sides of refrigerators, inside the bottom doors of the ice cream machine where splash and splatter occur.

More frequent cleaning of the toilet bases and all the facility lavatories needed. 

The grated can-wash at the dumpster pad is covered with leaves/grease. Maintain this fixture clean and the drain visible.

Some cleaning needed on the walk-in freezer floor. 



Little Aggies

2438 Hwy 11 S, Kinston

Observations: 

No hand-drying device at hand-wash sink in kitchen. The paper towels were stored on the food preparation table on the other side of the food preparation sink.

Several areas of raw meats being stored above ready-to-eat foods and above other raw meats that require a lower cooking temperature. Three different types of meats in ziplock bags stored in the same pan in a refrigerator. A large, open bag of raw chicken stored on the top shelf of the freezer in the back room where the electricity had gone out. Chicken was mostly frozen but was starting to thaw and was stored above ready to eat foods. 

Slicer, stored in back room, has not been cleaned thoroughly.

Some chemicals labelled. Some not, but those labelled might not be what is actually inside the container. Owner states he does not use these chemicals and he does not know what they are, and they belong to previous owner.

No thermometer provided for measuring food temps.

Spoon for dipping chili is inside the covered chili container. If stored in the food, the handle of the dispensing utensil shall be stored above the top of the food and the container.

New, clean pans that are not in use yet are stored on the floor under pizza oven in the flat bottoms of the boxes they came in. There are small pieces of debris in the corners of the boxes. Clean spatulas for cooking on the grill are stored on the floor under the front of the grill in a small bucket of water. Fly swatter in direct contact with clean apron. Tabletop mixer stored on the floor. 

A piece of styrofoam with a piece cardboard on top of it is used to boost a piece of equipment. Lid for lift-top refrigerator is damaged and will not stay up without being propped or held with a piece of wire. The underside of the lid is about to fall out and is separated from the top of the lid. The drains for the wash compartment and the sanitize compartment of the 3-compartment sink will not hold water.

Insert for Zojirushi rice warmer has many scratches and is rough and hard to clean.

Dumpster is on the ground. 

There is a gap between the wall and the floors in a few areas in the kitchen with no coving, baseboard, etc. to cover the gap.

222 Chophouse

222 N Herritage Street, Kinston

Observations: 

Few foods were date marked 03/13 which is more than 7 days. One food date was difficult to read but appeared to marked 03/09 - also over 7 days. 

Spray bottle with a chemical inside stored next to a container of clean utensils.

Food employee wears bracelet on wrist. Food employees may wear only a smooth, plain ring, similar to a wedding band on hands and arms. Food employees are not wearing hair restraints, and then donned after I arrived. Each food employee shall wear an effective hair restraint.

Soiled utensils are piled on the floor due to lack of drainboard space. Much food preparation is done prior to utensil washing staff reports to work. Soiled utensils continued to pile up on floor even after utensil washing staff arrived.

Pipe below food preparation sink is leaking, so this sink is not currently used. Repair this as soon as possible so the prep sink may be utilized. Currently, bus pans are stacked on the drainboard of this sink.

Wooden floor in hallway to where some preparation on rolling carts has migrated is not smooth and has areas of damage. Ceiling in hallway is not easily cleanable.
